Cindy Smith – President
Cindy has been the fearless leader of the SBHANA as the President for the past eleven years. She is the mother of four young children. Her son Nathan, who is now 12 years old, was born with spina bifida. Cindy has a background in occupational therapy. This year she has taken on a new role as Assistant Camp Director for Camp Freedom.
Chris Minchau – Vice President
Chris has been a member of the SBHANA for many years. He has been active volunteer on the SBHANA Board of Directors and the SBHAC Board of Directors. Chris is currently a coach for the Edmonton Sled Hockey Club, Home of the Edmonton Impact.
Rebecca Moss – Treasurer
Rebecca has been our amazing Treasurer for the past nine years. She is employed as a Forensic Engineer and is the mother of two young boys. Rebecca has worked hard to keep the SBHANA finances in order so we are accountable to our members and supporters. We are grateful for the long hours of hard work she has contributed.
Katherine Bateman – Secretary
Katherine joined the board four years ago and has been our Secretary for the past two years. She is the mother of three children including nine year old Leah, who was born with spina bifida. Katherine was Silent Auction Co-chair on the steering committee for our 2011 National Conference. Meet her family in our Dream. Live. Inspire video.
Ken was one of the original SBHANA Board of Directors members. He left the board in 1990 and rejoined in 2006. Ken also spent many years volunteering with Alberta Northern Lights in various positions including Treasurer and President. Ken is the father of three grown boys including his son Chris, who was born with spina bifida.
Betty Ann Thibodeau
Betty Ann is a Pediatric Urology Nurse Practitioner and works closely with many of our members. Betty Ann has been a key volunteer for Camp Freedom as the medication nurse. We are grateful to have her share her insights and knowledge with the board.
Sean has been on the Board of Directors since 2013. He has been an active volunteer at June Awareness events including but not limited to manning displays, selling raffle tickets and being a constant presence. Sean participates in the NoLimits Peer Support and attended the SBHAC National Conference held in Vancouver.
Lise enjoys volunteering for various SBHANA events. Lise also has volunteered at the library and gift shop at the U of A Hospital.She is an adult member who is living with spina bifida.
Curt is one of the newer members of the Board of Directors. He has volunteered at the Christmas Party, participated in the Hope Classic and fundraised for the NoLimits trip to the SBHAC National Conference.
Lisa moved to Edmonton from Hinton, Alberta, and has been with us for three years. She is the Coordinator for the NoLimits Peer Support evenings and has volunteered for SBHANA events. Lisa has been a member of our Association for many years and as a teen attended Camp Freedom.
Alexandra began her journey with SBHANA as a volunteer with Hope Classic. She has been on the board since 2015. Alexandra also volunteers at annual Christmas Parties and Camp Freedom. Currently a U of A student taking Sciences and would like to apply for Med School.
Melody recently joined the board in 2017. She has 3 sons, one of which was born with Spina Bifida
Dale returned to the board in 2015-2016 fiscal year. He shares relevant information with the SBHANA office. He is also an active volunteer at Hope Classic as a route Marshall
