The Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Northern Alberta prides ourselves in offering a wide variety of programs, financial support opportunities, and events. We are incredibly proud to be a part of the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus community and we strive to uplift our community members.

NoLimits Peer Support Evenings

Monthly peer support evenings for individuals with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus. The NoLimits group attends various fun events, hosts guest speakers, and meets to support one another’s journey with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus.

Walk & Roll BBQ and Fundraiser

The annual Walk and Roll BBQ and fundraiser is a great way to meet others who have had similar experiences, meet new individuals with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, eat good food, win prizes, and have a fun time!

The SBHANA Christmas Party

SBHANA hosts an annual Christmas party where kids can meet Santa, get their faces painted, and dance their hearts out. There’s lots of holiday fun to be had by grown ups too! This event is a wonderful way to meet other people in the spina bifida and hydrocephalus community.

Camp Freedom

Each summer, SBHANA organizes and holds a four day camp for teens aged 12-19 and new to the camp experience is Camp 2.0 for adults at Camp He Ho Ha. Some of the camp activities include: swimming, crafts, basketball, dance, games, campfire, mini golf, canoes, and paddle boats!

Social Networking

The SBHANA can help connect members with members who have has similar experiences and are seeking information and support.

Newsletters

The SBHANA newsletter is delivered to our members via Constant Contact . Each newsletter is full of information about upcoming events, volunteer requests, member accomplishments, opportunities, stories, photos from social events, book reviews, and useful information.

SBHANA Support Fund

SBHANA offers a support fund of up to $1,000 a year for individuals with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus. The support fund assists with the expenses resulting from the fact that the person has spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus.

Member Education Fund

This fund provides SBHANA members with the opportunity to further their education and understanding of spina bifida and hydrocephalus through the attendance of national or international conferences. Preference is given to SBHAC Conferences.

SBHANA Scholarship

The Dr. Peter Bowen Scholarship, provided annually by SBHANA, represents a valuable opportunity for students living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus who are dedicated to pursuing post-secondary education.

This  scholarship program awards two deserving individuals with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus each year, with each scholarship valued at $1000.We have two scholarships available each year for students with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus who are pursuing post‑secondary education. Each scholarship has a value of $1000.
